Comment about Diworsification

I just added another comment to a member of my group. He explained how companies tend to have trouble when trying out other markets. I simply stated that there are a few companies that have been successful with trying out other markets. For example Apple making iPods and I'm sure with a reputation like Nike they would also be able to expand to other markets if they haven't already. How about some google juice?

In an experiment in class we are using the keyword stiuqxela to link to the Green Bay Packers website. It is a made up word that had no results when typed into google before the class experiment. Everyone is trying to get the top spot on the google search but I can't seem to get my blog on the results page. So I thought i would work on it a little bit.

The Deadly Duo

While reading some articles in Clickz I came across one that could would have an impact on us all. "The Deadly Duo" sounds like a team of crime fighters but they are in fact viruses and spam. These are major security issues for everyone that uses a computer which applies to the majority of us. The article explains that viruses and spam are found mostly in URLs for advertising. That's scary because advertising is all over the internet and with one click you can be hit by one of these 2 malicious codes. Also, spam on the web has increased dramatically over a very short period of time.

The article says that "....spam has gone up 222 percent since November 2005:" Those numbers are remarkable and it continues to get worse. Viruses and spam are now being used by criminals to put into web applications and web browsers. This article is a prime example of why you need to be very careful about what your clicking on while on the web. To get more statistics or read about other security issues on the web you can just click on the link below.

Amazon's "Tricks"

On Wednesday in class we discussed an article about Amazon. The article explained a marketing technique that some thought to be "tricky" or "unethical". Amazon would sell their product at a lower price to new people visiting the website and it would be more expensive to people that are frequent users. Amazon uses cookie files to tell if you've visited the site before and/or if you are a frequent user. When people discovered this they were very unhappy to find out they were paying more then others for the same thing.

Amazon explains that it is a technique to find out if this would boost sales or make them more money. They do not think they are being tricky at all. They simply say they are experimenting with a new marketing technique. Although this technique will bring in more customers, its not fair to the loyal customers. It just doesn't seem right or ethical to have different prices on the same products for different people.

At the same time your bringing in customers others that have been loyal to Amazon are getting upset. This could cause a lot of problems leading to people going elsewhere. I understand what Amazon was thinking but it's just not fair to do it without anyones knowing. People are being ripped off while others are getting discounts, simply because they are new. People are now changing settings on their computers so they won't be recognized as frequent users. There were plenty of ways to go about this but I don't think Amazon made the best decision.

Kevin Durant is headed for the league

I've just edited another wikipedia article about Texas Longhorn superstar freshman Kevin Durant Player Profile. He has declared for the NBA draft and he is expected to go number 1 or number 2 in the upcoming draft. He is leaving Texas after 1 year to go to the league. This is no good for Texas fans like myself because he dominated teams in the Big 12. Although, we will have 4 returning starters it still hurts losing your best player.
