Cheers Alex Brown

I just wanted to thank you for a great semester. I learned a lot and I'm sure it will stick with me for many years to come. You taught a great class and a lot of students will miss out of a great class because your retiring. Good luck with the website, keep up the love for Barbaro and hopefully I'll be sending you a link to a website I created that makes me successful in the future. Thanks again and I'll see you around. Cheers!

Final Comments on Group Members Blog

I noticed that Chris was a New Yorker because of his Wiki articles. I'm a big baseball fan so I decided to comment on his article about Roger Clemons and the Yankees. I realize that Roger Clemons is a key acquisition for the team but the Red Sox currently have the best record in the major leagues. Check out Chris's Blog for some wiki edits on the YANKS.

Steve Nash Wrap Up

The editing I did to Steve Nash was pretty good. I actually added two different headings while putting a lot of information under them. I hoping people will continue to add to what I have already said and the additions will be successful. I was very excited that I was able to add stuff about his athletic career because as I stated earlier in my blog it was complicated in other instances. I know a lot about sports so I knew that Steve Nash would either have another MVP season or would be in the running. That was a garunteed addition which I kept up with when the MVP was announced. Other then Kevin Durant I would have to say Steve Nash was my favorite because I was able to add categories that I know will continue to grow. I will keep checking out the page to see what kind of additions will be made under my headings. All in all Steve Nash was a good choice to edit on Wikipedia.

Steve Nash Final Edit

While reading through Steve Nash, I realized that all of his statistics were in the NBA. The guy had a great college career that people need to know about. I simply added a college career heading as I did earlier with the 06-07 season in my previous edit. There is much to learn about Steve Nash's college career at Santa Clara, so if you want to take a look, check out Steve Nash: College Career

David Beckham Wrap Up

Beckham was a very interesting article to edit. Although he plays soccer and is coming to the United States, I found it easier to edit his personal life. David Beckham is so famous that almost everything he's ever done is on the Wiki page. I could add nit picky stuff about his soccer career but they aren't important when learning about Beckham. He is very succesful and I was able to find a lot of information on his personal life which enabled me to add it to the page. The first article I edited was about his recent soccer career but it was changed out of my words into someone elses. The information is still the same but someone thought that the wording needed to be different. The additions that I made to his personal life remained in my words which I thought was pretty cool. I'm sure with Beckham coming to the United States, I will be able to continue to add a lot of information about his soccer career. All in all, I had fun with the Beckham edit.

Terrell Owens Wiki Wrap Up

Editing Terrell Owens turned out to be quite the task. It was actually the hardest one for me because it was during his offseason. I thought that since he is usually in the news because of his antics that he would still make it during the offseason. I thought that he might do something stupid or say something stupid (like he usually does) and I would be able to blog about it. But for some reason, he stayed out of the news which made it pretty difficult. Although, I completed the three edits, I couldn't add as much as I had wanted to. I edited one piece of information and added two other pieces of information. The additions that I made were kept the way I left them and the edit was rather recent but I believe it will stay as is. All in all, this was the hardest Wikipedia article for me. To check out TO, look at his Wiki article at TO "Mr. Controversial"

Kevin Durant Wrap Up

Well its about that time to wrap some things up. My wikipedia edits for Kevin Durant weren't too tough for me. As I stated earlier in my blog, I'm a very big Longhorn fan so editing Durant articles were actually rather fun for me. As far as the actual additions I made to the article, they were only touched minorly. My first addition had edits to it but the rest were kept the same which was I was rather happy about. I think Kevin Durant is going to be a great player in the NBA and I believe that his Wiki article will continiue to get longer as the years go by. Hopefully, I will continue to add on to his page and keep everyone updated on how he does in the future. Check out Kevin Durants Page and National Player of Year

Steve Nash edit

Steve Nash has just finished his 2007 season so I decided to take a look at how he compared to last season. I was reading through his Wikipedia article and checked out what his stats were last year. I read a few and I knew he had done some more things so I added them. I saw that they referred to Reggie Miller, Mark Price and Larry Bird when comparing them to Nash but I added the dates in which each player accomplished the feat. Next, I continued to add statistics comparing him to great players in previous seasons. I added a comparison to him and Jason Kidd when it came to assists in a previous season. To take a look at this edit, check out Steve Nash 06-07 Season

Nick Baldini's Final Post

I thought that Nick was absolutely right when he said that the class has been a learning experience. I've learned so much that will stick with me for many years to come. It will allow me to continue with my blog or even create more to help me with my career. I now know how to create my own blog, my own web page, and I am able to make a website be one of the most popular sites one the results page on search engines. As Nick stated, I am able to link things to my blog and edit Wikipedia without much complication. I am very appreciative of Alex Brown's class and I am lucky to have learned so much. So I just wanted to say thank you to him and good luck to everyone in the future. To take a look into the thoughts of a Notre Dame diehard take a look at his "Fighting Irish" blog.

Comment about Zach Hellers "Travel Friend"

While reading Zach Hellers Blog I came across an entry about SEO and his "Travel Friend" idea. First of all, I thought that travel friend is a great idea that could actually excel. I know that this class has helped him to develop a website and help him out with getting people to notice it. It just goes to show that this class is not just for our health, but it is a tool that we all could use in our future business careers. The search engine optimization is going to help get their site noticed but without them learning about SEO, they would have a tough time. I think travel friend is going to be a true test of what we learned in class and with the search engine optimization idea. I wish my good friends Mr. Heller and Mr. Gruber good luck with their idea and I hope it works out. For further information on the "travel friend" website and search engine optimization take a look at Zach Hellers blog Hellertime.

We continue with TO's final edit

In the article they give a brief explanation of all of the crazy celebrations that TO has done. I read through them and decided to add a brief statement to the diciplinary actions that were taken by the team when he acted up against the cowboys while playing for the 49ers. He ran to the middle of the star and was hit by their safety. His coach suspended him and then fined him 24,000 dollars which is equal to one weeks pay. To take a look at this article go to TO celebrations.

Final Kevin Durant Edit

While I was looking at Kevin Durants article, I found that it was rather hard to read. I couldn't figure out where his high school information was compared to his college career. I decieded to make his early basketball career a heading as well as his college basketball career a heading. It makes it more simple to read. For a further look at the best college basketball player in the nation. Take a look at Kevin Durant: The Greatest

David Beckham final edit

I have just finished my last edit on David Beckham. Its something that I was surprised to see wasnt already in the article, so I decided to add it. It was simply the time and place that Becks proposed to his wife Victoria. (a well known "Spice Girl") For a further look at Beckhams personal life take a look at Becks Personal Life.

Steve Nash MVP??

Well as I stated before I have slacked on my Wikipedia articles and my Steve Nash edits are no exception. I've added a whole new section to the Steve Nash Wikipedia article talking about his 2006-2007 NBA season. It gives statistics and explains the honors that he recieved from the NBA. He missed out being the MVP but his former teammate that was the best player on the best team edged him out. He did have a great year which I explained so to take a further look into his season, check out Steve Nash 2006-2007 season.

Terrell Owens Edit Numero Dos

I try to make my wikipedia edit things that have happened more recently then not. For Terrell Owens, he has been out of the headlines for a long time now so you have to dig deep to find things he has done recently to get into the news. Although, he usually makes his way into the news for bad things, my edit today explains that he showed up for the first day of minicamp. This suprised his new coach as well as teammates but he wants to make sure his injury to his finger will be okay for the start of the season. Take a look at the edit at Terrell Owens Dallas Cowboys.

David Beckham edit #2

Well as I was looking through my edits on my Wikipedias and I realized I had been slacking. I decided to catch up a little bit so I edited an article on David Beckham simply explaining the amount of money that the Beckhams will be getting when they release their new perfume in the U.S. They are expected to recieve 13.7 million dollars for the release. Beckham is set to play in the U.S. this summer for the L.A. Galaxy. For more about David Beckham check out his Wikipedia site. David Beckham Fame Beyond Footbol

The Ryan Dzielak search

Well with the end of the semester almost here, I decided to check out my name in a google search to see if my blog would come up. I guess I have a unique last name so there aren't many things that would come up with both my first and last name. But what did come up when I completed the search was MY BLOG. Blogging by Diz was on the first page as well as a few other things from our marketing class. I thought that was very interesting and as I continue to add to my blog, I will see if I am able to get my blog to be the first item on the search results page. For a look at the results page of the "Ryan Dzielak search" check out Ryan Dzielak on google.

Global Neighbourhoods article

I was reading through an article in Global Neighbourhoods about Wikipedia that caught my attention because we have done many things with Wikipedia this year. It explains how Wikipedia is one of the most widely used information site on the web. It explains that it is such a good website due to the fact that so many people can add stuff to it.

Some may say that people can add stuff that isnt important or false information but the great thing about Wikipedia is that people will keep up with the site and correct the things that are wrong and or add information daily.

Shel Israel (the author of Naked Conversations) said that Wikipedia was the primary source for the book. She explains that she thought all the information was 100% accurate. That makes the site more credible and I believe people will continue to use it as a source of reference in years to come. Many young users will reference wikipedia when looking for information and as they grow older they will continue to use the site as well as the generation after them. To take a look at this article go to Global Neighbourhoods: Wikipedia: Just How Popular is it

Group member comment about Search engines

I was reading through Laurens Blog and saw an interesting article about search engines. She said that the up and coming search engines may affect google and yahoo. Its a possibility but I believe that Google and Yahoo have such a high number of users that these new search engines won't have much of an affect on them. To see Laurens blog entry check out here blog at Laurens Blog.

Designing a Webpage

Today in class we learned just how easy it was to make a website. At the beginning of class I was very unsure of how to go about creating a website but after class was finished I realized that I could do it without much problem. Although there are many different codes to remember, it is easy to figure out if you forget the code. You can look at another website and open the source to figure out what your missing or how to put the code in.

The most difficult part of designing a webpage is making sure the code is entered exactly the way its suppose to. It is very easy to accidently skip an important word or add a space where it is not needed. HTML code is very important to learn so if your ever interested in publishing your own website then you will have to know how to do it. Also we talked about in class that you need to get someone to host your webpage if you want it to be viewed by others on the internet.

Alex Brown ESPN article

As I was looking through ESPN.com I noticed an article about Barbaro so i decided to take a peak. When I opened the page I saw a picture of the teacher (the same one that was in The News Journal) so i decided to read through it a little. A couple paragraphs into the article they began to talk about Alex Brown. That called him "God" in the virtual world. Its a pretty interesting article they praises our teacher so you should check it out at this link.....Barbaro article

Class on 4/30

On Monday April 30 our class had a guest speaker come in and talk to us about search engine optimization. Our presenter (Bill) is a optimization consultant that owns his own website called SEO by the SEA. Search engine optimization teaches you how to get your webpage to show up higher in a search engines results page. This is a very important tool in advertising and it will help you to get your website out into the public. A question was brought to his attention about the "trickery" behind optimization.

Will optimizing your website to be higher on the results pages anger people because there are other websites with more information? Well as the Professor Brown said "those sites will only last for about 6 months and then be forgotten." Also, if people go to a high result webpage and there is no relevant information, then they are going to get angry and never return to the site.

Next, search engine optimization is very important in advertising, so if you have relevant information on your site and its higher up then others because of optimization then thats good advertising technique. If your interested in looking more into search engine optimization then check out SEO by the SEA.

TO Edit (wikipedia)

I've updated another wikipedia article but this one is about former eagles superstar Terrell Owens. The controversial wide out for the Dallas Cowboys will recieve his 3 million dollar bonus for the year of 2007. To read more about this, click on Terrell Owens Dallas Cowboys

Comment about Diworsification

I just added another comment to a member of my group. He explained how companies tend to have trouble when trying out other markets. I simply stated that there are a few companies that have been successful with trying out other markets. For example Apple making iPods and I'm sure with a reputation like Nike they would also be able to expand to other markets if they haven't already. To take a look at the article check out Nicks blog.

How about some google juice?

In an experiment in class we are using the keyword stiuqxela to link to the Green Bay Packers website. It is a made up word that had no results when typed into google before the class experiment. Everyone is trying to get the top spot on the google search but I can't seem to get my blog on the results page. So I thought i would work on it a little bit.

The Deadly Duo

While reading some articles in Clickz I came across one that could would have an impact on us all. "The Deadly Duo" sounds like a team of crime fighters but they are in fact viruses and spam. These are major security issues for everyone that uses a computer which applies to the majority of us. The article explains that viruses and spam are found mostly in URLs for advertising. That's scary because advertising is all over the internet and with one click you can be hit by one of these 2 malicious codes. Also, spam on the web has increased dramatically over a very short period of time.

The article says that "....spam has gone up 222 percent since November 2005:" Those numbers are remarkable and it continues to get worse. Viruses and spam are now being used by criminals to put into web applications and web browsers. This article is a prime example of why you need to be very careful about what your clicking on while on the web. To get more statistics or read about other security issues on the web you can just click on the link below.

Amazon's "Tricks"

On Wednesday in class we discussed an article about Amazon. The article explained a marketing technique that some thought to be "tricky" or "unethical". Amazon would sell their product at a lower price to new people visiting the website and it would be more expensive to people that are frequent users. Amazon uses cookie files to tell if you've visited the site before and/or if you are a frequent user. When people discovered this they were very unhappy to find out they were paying more then others for the same thing.

Amazon explains that it is a technique to find out if this would boost sales or make them more money. They do not think they are being tricky at all. They simply say they are experimenting with a new marketing technique. Although this technique will bring in more customers, its not fair to the loyal customers. It just doesn't seem right or ethical to have different prices on the same products for different people.

At the same time your bringing in customers others that have been loyal to Amazon are getting upset. This could cause a lot of problems leading to people going elsewhere. I understand what Amazon was thinking but it's just not fair to do it without anyones knowing. People are being ripped off while others are getting discounts, simply because they are new. People are now changing settings on their computers so they won't be recognized as frequent users. There were plenty of ways to go about this but I don't think Amazon made the best decision.

Kevin Durant is headed for the league

I've just edited another wikipedia article about Texas Longhorn superstar freshman Kevin Durant Player Profile. He has declared for the NBA draft and he is expected to go number 1 or number 2 in the upcoming draft. He is leaving Texas after 1 year to go to the league. This is no good for Texas fans like myself because he dominated teams in the Big 12. Although, we will have 4 returning starters it still hurts losing your best player.

Keyword STIUQXELA

In an experiment for class we are checking search results for the keyword stiuqxela and by clicking on the keyword it will actually bring you to one of the worst teams in the NFL's website.

Member Comment on some Shady Business

I've just completed my second comment on a members blog. We had talked about how you are able to look at where someone lives just by looking up their name. I thought this was a very interesting subject and very "creepy" as well. I agreed with her thoughts 100% and think its a bit of a privacy issue. You can find this "Shady Business" post on Laurens Blog.

Apple's iPhone

Since I was unable to attend class today due to the icy conditions, I have decided to blog about an article that I have read in Slashdot. While reading through the articles, I was reading an interesting article about the new iPhone being introduced by Apple. The article was called "Newton's Ghost Haunts Apples iPhone" .

It explained that the new iPhone is going to have trouble selling to the public due to its expensive price. Its hard to imagine how people are willing to pay so much for an iPod and a phone but will not be willing to pay more money to get both of them into one. There are many competitors that will attempt to come out with phones that are less pricey and alike. One major problem that the article addresses is finding a wireless network to take on the iPhone. This is a very interesting article and I will continue to check up on the iPhone and update my blog about it.

2nd Wikipedia Edit

I've just completed my second Wikipedia article edit and I decided to add some information to David Beckham. It's tought to find information that people have not already posted on him but he recently got hurt in one of his games. So I've decided to take advantage of that information and add it into the article. He injured his knee on Sunday, March 4 and he is expected to miss 1 month. Many people may know that he is suppose to come play in the U.S. in August for the L.A. Galaxy but you'll be happy to know if your a fan of soccer that this will not impact his arrival. If your interested in learning more about David Beckham, the wikipedia article can be found at David Beckham Fourth Season for Real Madrid.

First Wikipedia Edit

I've just finished my first Wikipedia edit. I decided to edit an article on Kevin Durant. As I stated earlier, I'm a big Texas Longhorn fan so I brought the article up to date. I added some stats and explained that he was a top rookie. Not only a top rookie but also a national player of the year candidate. There will be plenty of more information to add in the upcoming weeks with the Big 12 tournament and NCAA tournament. Here is a link to the article if you want to take a look. As I've stated before I am a big sports fan so I have decided to do my wikipedia articles on 4 athletes. Also, I am a big fan of every professional Philadelphia sports team. My college team of choice would have to be the University of Texas. National Champs in football in the 2005-2006 season. I am looking forward to Buad 477 and here is a link to the class website: BUAD 477

About me

My name is Ryan Dzielak and I'm a senior Marketing student at the University of Delaware. After graduation I plan on getting a job in sales or advertising. I'm a very avid sports fan and I am extremely competitive. I've lived in Delaware my whole life but I plan on moving to a different state following graduation. It's been fun in Delaware but I feel I need to experience new things and new surroundings.
